WHAT IS A CONFINED SPACE?
OSHA uses “permit-required confined space” (permit space) for spaces with restricted access that are not meant for continuous occupancy. A confined space has the following characteristics classified into two forms: limited or restricted means for entry or exit.
Technically, it contains a hazardous atmosphere or potential engulfment. They include recognized hazards like unguarded machinery, exposed live wires, and heat stress.
These spaces exist in various settings like industrial sites, tunnels, and tanks often with limited entry, poor airflow, and possible dangerous substances. Such spaces converge inward or slope downward.
Many workplaces have confined spaces like underground vaults, tanks, process vessels, and storage bins.
WHAT IS A CONFINED SPACE TICKET?
A confined space training ticket and course is an OSHA requirements for practices and personal safety and procedures to protect workers from the hazards of entering permit spaces. Space entry training is recommended for professionals working in general industry, maritime, and construction.
The objective of the confined space course is to work safely and operate within confined spaces utilizing space personal safety equipment and guidelines.
For permit-required confined spaces, ensuring safety measures and thorough confined space entry training is essential. We recommend refresher courses every 2 to 5 years after completing the initial course.
