Unless you have spent the last 6 months living under a rock; and we don’t mean in isolation or quarantine; you will know how much the world has changed as a result of COVID-19. What started off as a dismissible outbreak of the flu, has transformed the day to day lives of the average Australian in unprecedented ways. This new frontier has left industries crippled and many Australians unemployed, uncertain of what opportunities lay ahead of them. However, one industry has managed to maintain its growth throughout these turbulent times, maintaining its position as one of Australia’s largest employing industries. This industry is none other than Civil Construction.
Even though this industry is one of the largest in Australia, outside of its extensive workforce, little is known about the actual career development capacity it holds. When we reached out to the general public to understand their concepts of the industry, the following question was returned:
“It’s just digging holes and moving dirt, isn’t it?”
Although earthmoving is without a doubt a significant component of the industry, and the above statement may oversimplify the skills machinery operators practice daily, it is not where the industry starts and stops. To reiterate this idea further, prior to rubbing shoulders with industry veterans here at Diggerman HQ, I myself didn’t understand the scope of employment opportunities that the Civil Construction Industry held for those willing to give it a go.
As a result of this misconception, this Blog was created. To try and correct these ideas and potentially expand the horizon’s for individuals looking for new opportunities. Over the coming weeks we will be providing insight into this industry, interviewing industry experts and veterans, and exploring potential area’s within the industry to offer a snap shot of the continuously expanding capacity that Civil Construction offers.
To follow these posts and other industry updates, make sure you like and follow our Facebook page and we hope you enjoy this exploration into one of Australia’s largest industries.
